PRESIDENT’S THEME
"We As Gardeners Beautify the Environment, Let's Encougarge Others To Do The Same”

A poem by Jessie Gimbel incased in greenery: COLLECT For the tender green of growing things, For the mellow soil at our fingertips, For the wonder of life in tiny seeds, For the beauty of growing gardens, For the joy of caring for these, thy bounties, Dear Father in Heaven, we thank thee. CONSERVATION PLEDGE
I pledge to protect and conserve the natural resources
of the plant Earth and promise to promote education so we may
become caretakers of  our air, water, forests, land and wildlife.

Did you know?
America's Conservation Pledge is a creed defining the term "conservation" and the calling the attention of all to the necessity for preserving our remaining natural resources.  The Pledge had its origin in a national competition, with $5,000.00 in prizes, sponsored by Outdoor Life magazine in 1946.  Officials of the federal and state governments actively supported the competition by helping to publicize it in schools, among sportsman's clubs and elsewhere.
More than 15,000 entries were received.  Each person who submitted a pledge also had to write an essay on the necessity for conservation.  The winning Pledge was written by L.L. Foreman of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The pledge was revised in 1993.  The pledge runs on the letters page of every issue of Outdoor Life.
