2010 District III Meeting - Lafayette
Lafayette Garden Club hosted the Louisiana Garden Club Federation
2010 District III Fall Meeting, titled “Rhythms & Hues" on Thursday, October 14, at the Petroleum Club of Lafayette. Beautiful floral arrangements by the Floral Committee were everywhere, and the containers carried out the theme, in the design of musical instruments and music notes. Reverend Monseigneur Curtis Mallet of the Diocese of Lafayette gave the Invocation, and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Aline Arceneaux. The Host Club President Margaret Hargroder welcomed everyone to the event, and Carlee Alm-Labar of Lafayette Consolidated Government welcomed the attendees to the City of Lafayette. Mary Jane Peters, District III Director emceed the Fall Meeting and LGCF President Donna Bucci addressed the group.
Following a business meeting, Julie Haack of Lafayette Garden Club gave the blessing before the serving of gourmet lunches, during which time raffle ticket prizes were awarded to the winners, as well as door prizes.
The 75th diamond jubilee commemorative plate, featuring the Louisiana hybrid Iris 'Bera' design, was presented. To order one of the 75 commemorative plates, call Jean Gilstrap at (318) 680-1984.

Members and guests were invited to view the floral designs of District III by invited floral designers Ruby Newcomb, Sherri Labbe, Dotsy Oubre and Cecille Revels, as well as horticulture, by invitation, of Lafayette Garden Club members, Glenda Balliviero and Loraine Newberry.
Following lunch, Jennifer Granger, LGCF Circle of Roses Chairman, introduced the new Circle of Roses members, Madeline Hoyt and Bera Smith. Aline Arceneaux presented our District III scholarship award winner, student Rachel Adam. She is majoring in Renewable Resources at University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Betty Foret announced the upcoming Landscape Design School, to be held in Baton Rouge on February 22 and 23, 2011.
Betty then introduced the guest speaker, Denise Durio Carroll of Jim Durio Florists in Opelousas, who presented the program titled “The Creative Designing of Wreaths."

Dee Nolan, a/k/a Tante Lala, wearing an old-fashioned sunbonnet, spoke in Cajun dialect about the 2011 Deep South Convention, set for March 14 through 17 in Lafayette.

The viewing of the floral designs and horticulture exhibits, presentation of our District III scholarship winner, and program by Ms. Carroll, all reflect the goals of National Garden Club, Inc., by providing education and promoting the love of gardening and floral design.
Inez Barras, of Lafayette Garden Club, gave the benediction.
